On October 6th, 1955, United Airlines Flight 409 crashed into Medicine Bow Peak on a course departing from Denver, CO to Salt Lake City, UT. All 66 souls onboard perished. The flight was authorized to cruise along at 10,000 feet, due to the cabin being non-pressurized. Medicine Bow Peak's 12,005 foot sheer face was well above the airline's capacity to fly and the airliner augured into the mountain without warning. The mountain and Lake Marie remain a solemn and peaceful place.
