Maple Leaves in Autumn
Maple Leaves in Autumn
In autumn, because of changes in the amount of daylight and temperature, the leaves stop their food-making process. Chlorophyll breaks down, the green color disappears, and colors become visible to us. The color comes from pigments, natural substances produced by leaf cells. The three pigments that color leaves are chlorophyll (green), carotenoid (yellow, orange, and brown) and anthocyanin (red).
