One of the rock formations found in the Paint Mines of Colorado. Named for their colorful clays, the site was used likely for millennia by First Nation groups who used the clays to make paint and dyes. The rock formations include oxidized iron compounds, selenite and white quartzite crystals, distributed in varying amounts throughout the layers of clay.
