The Pasque flower is actually an anemone. Recognized as the state flower of South Dakota, it blooms in the late Spring or early Summer. Pasque flowers grow primarily in grasslands where the soils are alkaline and of limestone origin. Blooming for many weeks in early Spring, the Pasque flowers are an ideal companion plant for many early spring blooming bulbs such as tulips and they an invaluable source of early season nectar for honeybees and native bees.
